Start your journey in the capital of the Algarve and on the second day take a relaxed train ride into the quiet and picturesque interior, to Silves, where you can discover the medieval town. Head downhill through lemon groves to the breathtaking rocky coastline, which beckons with imposing rock formations and long sandy beaches. Stop off in Carvoeiro and enjoy the vibrant resort of Portimão in the evening. Continue along the rocky coast via the historic town of Lagos and the famous rock formation Ponta da Piedade to Praia de Luz. At the most south-westerly point in Europe, Cabo de São Vicente, the raging Atlantic awaits you. Immerse yourself in the history of the seafaring town of Sagres and let yourself be enchanted by the maritime atmosphere. During this short tour, you have the freedom to explore the Algarve by bike and discover the beauty of this unique region. Enjoy unforgettable experiences and create a time-out from everyday life. Itinerary
Individual arrival and check-in at the hotel in Faro. Personal welcome, tour briefing, handover and adjustment of the bikes according to your wishes by AlgarveCycling.
On the second day, you start with a relaxed train ride to Silves. The tour starts at the train station of Silves, which is just outside the medieval town. Enjoy the impressive sight of the Moorish castle and the charming alleys of the old town. From there, the route takes you through picturesque landscapes of hills and citrus plantations down to the coast to Carvoeiro, a charming coastal town with beautiful beaches and impressive cliffs. The Algar Seco rock formation, with its impressive caves and grottos, is definitely worth a stop. Along the coast, the landscape is characterized by steep cliffs that offer spectacular views. Pass Ferragudo, a picturesque fishing village with a fortress and small fishing port. Eventually, you reach Portimão, a lively port town with a charming old town and picturesque riverfront. Explore the cafés and restaurants and enjoy the local cuisine.
From Portimão, follow the coastal road to Alvor. The route offers breathtaking views of the sea and the cliffs. Alvor is a charming fishing village with a rich history. Pass through the Ria de Alvor Nature Reserve, a protected wetland with lagoons, salt marshes, dunes, sandy beaches, and an extensive oyster farm. Then continue to the wonderful beach of Meia Praia and then on to the historic city of Lagos, rich in history and culture. Visit the old city walls, the former slave market, and the fort "Bandeira". Along the cliffs, past the Ponta da Piedade, an impressive rock formation with steep cliffs and caves, you will have a breathtaking view of the azure sea and the surrounding coastline. The last section leads to Praia da Luz, a popular seaside resort with a long sandy beach and a relaxed atmosphere. The vegetation in this region is rather sparse and consists mainly of low bushes, but gives the area a special charm.
The last tour from Praia de Luz to Sagres is a true adventure along the breathtaking coast. You cycle along an elevated path to the small, charming fishing village of Burgau. Then it's a steep climb up a hill, but the effort is rewarded with a wonderful view of the Atlantic and the surrounding landscape. From there you cycle through wide fields to the picturesque village of Figueira. The landscape changes, the vastness and silence of the landscape is impressive and offers a special charm. You continue towards Raposeira, where the former home of Henry the Navigator stands. Continue through the narrow streets of Raposeira to Vila do Bispo. Here you cross a barren plateau and finally reach the lighthouse complex of Cabo de São Vicente, perched on 60-metre-high cliffs and marking the most south-westerly point in Europe. From there, a beautiful coastal road takes you to Sagres, a place steeped in legend and once the site of the maritime school where Portugal's best sailors were trained. Rich in history and offering a fascinating mix of culture and nature, Sagres is the final destination of this varied tour.
