Roadbike Eastern Algarve in Quinta dos Poetas 4* 3.25
What would you like to do next?
Description
Would you like to spend your holiday in the sunny south not only on a fantastic beach but also doing something for your fitness?
Then we'll let you in on perhaps the most famous secret in Europe: the ALGARVE - spoilt by the sun and blessed with an exceptionally varied and fascinating landscape.
A marvelously beautiful coastline, a hilly, mountainous hinterland, the "Serra", a sparsely built-up area with stretches of land that have remained natural and in between a fertile plain with citrus plantations, orange groves, and vineyards.
Good roads up into the Serra offer a great opportunity to test or improve your fitness from your accommodation.
Some of the routes run along roads where the annual "Volta ao Algarve" takes place, featuring the world's best cycling stars.
Itinerary
Move into your accommodation (excl.) and enjoy the evening with a good meal and a good glass of wine!
A cozy warm-up down to the sea. You pedal through the Ria Formosa nature reserve along lagoons and salt fields, where the famous "Flor do Sal" salt comes from. You then reach the small town of Tavira, the "Venice of the Algarve" and then cycle on a steadily ascending road past Santa Catarina and the "Rota da Cortiça" (cork route) up to São Bras. At the end of the tour, the route takes you down to your accommodation on a rapid descent.
The tour starts from the hotel in the direction of Estoi and continues to Stª Barbara de Nexe until you finally reach the market town of Loulé. The route so far has been largely flat, but after Loulé there is a slight ascent of 20 km over 200 metres in altitude. Initially, you cycle through a rural area with orange plantations and then through wooded areas with cork oak, pine, and eucalyptus trees as well as olive trees. Via Querenca to Barranco do Velho, you reach the highest point of the tour at 500 meters above sea level, after which a long, steep descent towards São Bras begins. The tour then leads back over a chain of hills to your hotel.
Firstly, we pass through Estoi again and take a long, winding road to São Bras. From there, the route climbs up through the cork oak area to Barranco do Velho. The route continues over three hills through the Serra to Cachopo, the turning point of the route. From there into the river valley of the "Ribeira Alportel". The valley is crossed in a steep descent and a steep counter-climb. Shortly before you reach the hill after crossing the valley, you leave the road to Tavira and turn right towards "Alcaria do Cume". The next few kilometers are characterized by constant ups and downs through the "Serra" with great views over the sea of hills and as far as the coast. Afterward, the route is mostly downhill on a good road and through the Barrocal area back to your accommodation.
Today's route takes you alternately uphill and down dale through the villages of Estói, Corotelo, São Romão, and Amendoeira to join the road to Barranco do Velho. You then leave this populated region and enter the mostly uninhabited hill country of the Serra. Riding on a very quiet and well-surfaced road, you begin a long drawn-out climb through Cork oak woods and a beautiful unspoiled river valley. You reach a hilly summit and cycle along it for a few kilometers before a great downhill ride brings you back to civilization. The route then takes you on side roads through typical Portuguese villages. You will encounter something of everything – a variety of gradients from flat to hilly to steep climbs of 20% but also of course great downhill sections. The last stretch is level and takes you on a straight road back to your hotel near Pechão.
Today you will once again head into the hilly, mountainous world of the Serra. Gradients of 20 percent and more await you. The route starts at Loulé and continues through 2 river valleys up to Ameixial. From there you head back towards the sea, but for the time being you climb another 10 kilometers to the highest point of the tour, at 580 metres. The rest of the route is a mostly enjoyable descent.
First, you drive to Loulé through the fertile Barrocal region. Pasturelands with many fruit trees alternate with large vegetable plantations. You then reach the small town of Paderne, with an old castle ruin dating back to Moorish times. From there, the route climbs steadily uphill to the small town of Alte, one of the most beautiful towns in the Algarve due to its beautiful white houses. From there, you take a mountain road with great views of the coastal area to Benafim, from where you speed down through 2 river valleys to the "Ribeira Algibre". You cycle along this river and then climb another steep ascent to "Corotelo", followed by another long descent to Estoi and then to your hotel.

Smoother is faster. The more comfortable and less fatigued you are at the end of a 4-hour ride, the stronger you will be. Like shocks on a race car, the carbon frames help absorb road impact and keep power planted firmly on the road, and it’s still plenty to thrash around in a sprint.
- Carbon frame
- Groupset Shimano 105 Di2 12v
- Hydraulic disc brakes
- 2 Bottle cages, frame pump, lock
