Embark on an unforgettable gravel bike tour from Setúbal to Faro, tracing the stunning Portuguese coastline. Ride alongside the deep blue Atlantic, where fine sandy beaches and striking cliffs await. Discover charming, authentic towns and bask in the beauty of the long, dreamy sandy beaches in the east, and the golden, picturesque cliffs and secluded coves of the renowned Gold Coast in the west. The coastal scenery, with its steep cliffs plunging into the sea and the roaring ocean waves, is simply unmatched.
Itinerary
Individual arrival and check-in at the hotel in Setúbal. Personal welcome, travel briefing, handover, and adjustment of the bikes according to your wishes by Algarve Cycling.
The tour starts in Setúbal and heads to the historical Castelo de Palmela. You'll then descend the winding Estrada da Cobra, heading towards Azeitão, where you'll pass landmarks like Parque da Bacalhôa and Casa das Tortas. In Arrábida Natural Park, enjoy stunning Atlantic views and varied landscapes of scrublands and ancient pine trees. Ascend to the Portinho da Arrábida viewpoint for a look at a picturesque cove with crystal-clear waters. Another highlight is the historic Arrábida Monastery, offering sweeping views of the park and ocean. The journey concludes with a loop back to Setúbal, showcasing coastal scenery, lush forests, and historical sites.
Today starts in Setúbal, taking a ferry to the tranquil Tróia peninsula. From Tróia, the route heads south to Comporta, known for its laid-back charm and pristine beaches. You'll pass rice fields and vineyards, then ride through Melides, a village amidst dense cork oak forests, to Santiago do Cacém, with its medieval castle and Roman ruins. The journey continues to Porto Covo, a picturesque fishing village with cobbled streets and whitewashed houses, offering dramatic Atlantic views. The final stretch ends in Vila Nova de Milfontes at the mouth of the Mira River, known for its stunning river and ocean vistas and charming historic center.
Staring the day off in Vila Nova de Milfontes, you’ll head north, passing through the tranquil landscapes of Rogil, known for its sprawling fields and rural charm. As you cycle further, the route takes you near the scenic cliffs and beaches of Zambujeira do Mar and then to Odeceixe, a village beautifully perched by the river, marking the boundary between the Alentejo and Algarve regions. Continuing along the coast, the ride concludes in Aljezur, nestled within the Costa Vicentina Natural Park. This town combines natural beauty with historical depth, featuring cobbled streets, whitewashed houses, and the remnants of a Moorish castle overseeing the valley. Each stretch of the route offers a quiet beauty, creating a seamless blend of coastal allure and cultural heritage.
Today's scenic route starts in Aljezur, heading towards the stunning Praia de Monte Clérigo, a favorite for its sandy shores and dynamic surf. Continuing along the coast, you'll pass by Praia da Arrifana, known for its dramatic cliffs and excellent surfing. The beach's picturesque cove offers shelter from the wind, perfect for a sunny day. From Arrifana, the route goes slightly inland to Carrapateira, known for its laid-back atmosphere and proximity to Amado and Bordeira beaches. Next, head to Vila do Bispo, noted for its rugged landscapes and rich maritime history. Enjoy the local seafood and explore traditional architecture. The final leg takes you to Sagres, at the southwestern tip of mainland Portugal, famous for its fortress and the iconic Cape St. Vincent lighthouse, offering breathtaking Atlantic views, especially at sunset.
Starting in Sagres, often considered the edge of the known world during the Age of Discovery, you'll head northeast towards Vila do Bispo. Continuing along the coast, you’ll pass through the quaint village of Salema, known for its traditional fishing heritage and serene beach. Next up is Burgau, a small fishing village with a cozy beach nestled between cliffs, offering a more intimate seaside experience. As you progress, you'll reach Praia da Luz, a favorite for both families and water sports enthusiasts due to its beautiful sandy beach and vibrant waterfront promenade. The route then takes you to one of the Algarve’s most stunning natural landmarks, Ponta da Piedade, known for its breathtaking rock formations and crystal-clear waters. The city of Lagos is next, where historical architecture and a lively marina blend seamlessly with the relaxed beach vibe. Continuing the coastal ride, you'll pass through Alvor, a village that balances traditional charm with tourist-friendly attractions, perfect for enjoying local cuisine along the harbor. Your scenic route concludes in Portimão, one of the Algarve’s larger cities, known for its bustling port, lively shopping districts, and the famous Praia da Rocha.
From Portimão, you’ll head east towards Carvoeiro, a charming village with stunning cliff-top views and picturesque coves, perfect for photo ops and leisurely strolls. Continuing along the coast, your next stop is Armação de Pêra, a former fishing village that now serves as a popular summer destination. Here, you can explore the long sandy beach and the old fort that overlooks the sea. Next, you’ll reach Albufeira, one of the Algarve’s most well-known holiday resorts, which offers a vibrant atmosphere with its bustling old town, numerous beaches, and lively nightlife. The journey then leads you to Quarteira, famed for its long, palm-lined promenade and fine sandy beach. After Quarteira, head to the upscale area of Quinta do Lago, nestled within the Ria Formosa Natural Park. This exclusive resort is surrounded by golf courses and luxurious villas, offering serene spots along the lagoon for bird watching or just enjoying the natural beauty.The final leg of your journey takes you to Faro, the capital of the Algarve, which is steeped in history with its well-preserved medieval quarters, the Arco da Vila, and a picturesque marina.

Gravel plus ideal for Bikepacking, rough roads, gravel or dirt. However you choose to roll, this bike does it all. The lightweight, smooth-riding composite frameset and adjustable wheelbase make it more capable than ever.
Advanced composite frame and fork save more than 160g compared to the previous model. Updated geometry includes a lower bottom bracket, longer reach and steeper head tube angle for improved acceleration and climbing. Dropped seatstays with thin tubing absorbs road shocks and vibrations. D-Fuse handlebar and seatpost work as a system to add compliance without sacrificing stiffness while cornering, sprinting or climbing.
A flip chip on the rear dropout adjusts the wheelbase: short for quicker handling, or long for improved stability at speed. The long setting allows for larger diameter tires up to 53mm. You can also choose the included D-Fuse seatpost for maximum compliance, or switch to a 30.9mm round or dropper post.
