Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival

Individual arrival and check-in at the hotel. Personal welcome, travel briefing, handover and adjustment of the bikes according to your wishes by Algarve Cycling.

Day 2

Évora – Monsaraz (72 km / 910 hm)

Your first ride takes you out of Évora on quiet roads lined with olive groves and grain fields. Cycle through peaceful countryside to the village of Nossa Senhora da Machede, and then continue towards the ruins of Castelo de Valongo. After a stop at the Ervideira wine estate for a tasting, you’ll ride past rolling vineyards and charming villages, arriving at the hilltop town of Monsaraz. Here, you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the Alqueva Lake and surrounding landscape, especially at sunset.

Day 3

Monsaraz – Moura (58 km / 1110 hm)

Today’s journey takes you through more vast plains and olive groves as you head towards the town of Moura. You’ll pass through the village of Campinho and ride alongside the Alqueva Dam, the largest artificial lake in Europe. The scenic route includes quiet country roads, with stops at local wineries and traditional villages. In Moura, you’ll stay in a beautifully restored historic hotel.

Day 4

Moura – Minas de S. Domingos (69 km / 1000 hm)

Today’s ride offers a blend of countryside and history as you cycle through olive and cork oak groves towards the mining village of Minas de S. Domingos. Stop for lunch in the small village of Pias, then continue through peaceful, wide-open landscapes before reaching your destination. Minas de S. Domingos, once a thriving mining town, is now a quiet village where you can explore the remains of the mining complex.

Day 5

Minas de S. Domingos – Alcoutim (65 km / 1130 hm)

This stage takes you through the heart of the Alentejo, passing cork oaks, eucalyptus trees, and scenic river valleys. You'll reach Mértola, a historic riverside town with a fascinating blend of Christian and Islamic heritage. After exploring Mértola’s old town, you’ll continue your ride to Alcoutim, a charming riverside village known for its medieval castle overlooking the Guadiana River. Relax and enjoy the peaceful views across to Spain.

Day 6

Alcoutim – Tavira (62 km / 1030 hm)

The final day of cycling follows the Guadiana River through the Serra Algarvia, a beautiful, untouched natural area. You’ll pass by the Odeleite Dam, known for its dragon-shaped appearance when viewed from above, and continue through traditional Algarve villages. After reaching the coast at Vila Nova de Cacela, you’ll ride past sandy beaches, lagoons, and salt flats, ending your tour in Tavira, a picturesque town with a charming riverfront and ancient bridges.

Day 7

Tavira - Faro (46 km/ 330 hm)

With the sea breeze from the nearby Atlantic in your face, you cycle along beautiful cycle paths through the fishing villages of Santa Luzia and Pedras del Rei to Fuseta. During a break at the harbour promenade, you can watch the fishermen working on their colourfully painted boats. The fishermen here specialise in catching octopus. Then we go to Olhão, the largest, still active fishing harbour. Right at the entrance to the town, there is a large information park about the region. It is worth exploring the old town, with its many restaurants offering seafood specialities and the busy harbour. The next stop is the capital of the Algarve, Faro. Well-marked cycle paths lead to the historic old town, which is surrounded by an old city wall. Here you will find many beautifully renovated buildings from the 16th and 18th centuries. After a few turns of the pedals at the marina, you reach the hotel.
